Surgical Technologist

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team at Christus Health. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Operating Room department.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients, maintaining aseptic techniques, and actively monitoring situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
- Provide comfort and support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy.
- Transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite, position patients according to the type of surgery, and identify and care for biological specimens.
- Prepare the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of case.
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Perform all processes that relate to the delivery of direct patient care and assistance care in the OR prior to and during any surgical procedure.
- Establish and maintain the sterile field, pass instruments, and sutures to the physician, and assist as directed by the physician.
- Use the physician preference card as a beginning point when pulling cases and setting up the OR.
- Ensure that preference cards are kept up to date and as complete as possible.
- Work effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient.
- Cooperate in team planning and execution.
- Maintain a safe environment by always implementing technical and aseptic practices.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety in all patient care situations.
- Demonstrate competence to monitor and control the surgical environment.
- Maintain proper traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitation policies and procedures.
- Familiar with facility policy and procedure regarding decontamination, processing, and sterilization of all instruments and supplies that are processed within the facility.
- Demonstrate competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
- Appropriately adapt assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of the Surgical Technology program or an accredited LVN/LPN program is required.
- 2 or more years of experience preferred.
- BLS required.
- Certification of Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 180 days of graduation or LVN/LPN License required.
