Mechanical Design Engineer

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of small satellite payloads and spacecraft subsystems. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating detailed mechanical designs, leading development and system integration of custom payloads, and ensuring compliance with mission requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Create detailed mechanical designs with CAD modeling, spanning concept design and all phases of the development cycle
- Lead development and system integration of custom payloads
- Balance mechanical modeling fidelity and analysis consistent with project requirements and schedule constraints
- Review and inspect mechanical designs and drawings for compliance with mission requirements and internal design criteria
- Compose and manage bill of materials (BOM) and quote and track progress of ordered and fabricated parts
- Test mechanical sub-assemblies and fully integrated small satellites
- Assess project requirements, break projects into tasks, and work with project managers to determine scope of work to meet project schedule milestones
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent
- Six or more years of experience in mechanical design in the space or related industry
- Experience with CAD design software, SolidWorks preferred
- Configuration management of detailed CAD models
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government
- Advanced degree in a STEM field or equivalent
- Five or more years of experience in part design, mechanism design, fabrication, and assembly/integration
- Leading independent projects or subsystem design with interdisciplinary support and limited oversight
- Experience throughout the entire development lifecycle
- Strong GD&T understanding and application
- Experience with three or more of the following: working in a laboratory or production environment, systems engineering, machine shop best practices, integrated TVAC and vibration testing, thermal design, structural design, composites manufacturing, additive manufacturing, agile tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc.)
The Aerospace Corporation offers a competitive compensation package, including a grade-based pay range of $117,300 - $175,900 per year.
