We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Nutanix. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems for small satellite payloads and spacecraft subsystems.
Key Responsibilities- Create detailed mechanical designs with CAD modeling, spanning concept design and all phases of the development cycle.
- Lead development and system integration of custom payloads.
- Balance mechanical modeling fidelity and analysis consistent with project requirements and schedule constraints.
- Review mechanical designs and drawings for compliance with mission requirements and internal design criteria.
- Inspect and fit check machined parts for tolerance and specification compliance.
- Compose and manage bill of materials (BOM).
- Quote and track progress of ordered and fabricated parts.
- Test mechanical sub-assemblies and fully integrated small satellites.
- Assess project requirements, break projects into tasks, and work with project managers to determine scope of work to meet project schedule milestones.
- Drive failure analysis and design of experiments to reach design solutions and corrective actions.
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent.
- Six or more years of experience in mechanical design in the space or related industry.
- Experience with CAD design software, SolidWorks preferred.
- Configuration management of detailed CAD models.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
- Advanced degree in a STEM field or equivalent.
- Five or more years of experience in part design, mechanism design, fabrication, and assembly/integration.
- Leading independent projects or subsystem design with interdisciplinary support and limited oversight.
- Experience throughout the entire development lifecycle.
- Strong GD&T understanding and application.
- Experience with three or more of the following: working in a laboratory or production environment, systems engineering, machine shop best practices, integrated TVAC and vibration testing, thermal design, structural design, composites manufacturing, additive manufacturing, agile tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc.).
