Job Title: Itinerant PreSchool Special Needs Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Itinerant PreSchool Special Needs Teacher to join our team at West Virginia Department of Education.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading students towards the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, social, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation. This role requires a deep understanding of the subject matter, the ability to design standards-driven instruction, and a commitment to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in a variety of settings, adapting instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment that promotes effective learning, using a range of instructional strategies and materials.
  • Prepare for classes, using a balanced assessment approach to guide student learning and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior, promoting a positive and respectful learning environment.
  • Employ a variety of research-based instructional strategies, motivating and engaging students in learning, problem-solving, and collaboration.
  • Evaluate and monitor student progress on a regular basis, using data to inform instruction and make adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy, promoting a culture of respect and responsibility.
  • Participate in school-wide collaborative efforts to support the success of all students, working with parents, guardians, families, and community entities to support student learning and well-being.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents, providing regular updates on student progress and addressing concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements:
  • State certification in Special Education or a related field.
  • Experience working with students with special needs, preferably in a preschool or early childhood setting.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum and instructional design, with the ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, with a willingness to engage in collaborative learning opportunities and stay current with best practices in special education.
