Position Overview

The Shell Norco facility is seeking skilled operators to join our workforce. The Process Operator plays a crucial role in overseeing, regulating, and executing tasks related to unit operations and equipment upkeep. This position demands a proactive approach to identify and rectify issues to maintain compliance with Shell Norco's safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere strictly to Norco's safety protocols, taking prompt corrective measures when potential hazards or unsafe practices are detected.
  • Conduct operations with a focus on environmental responsibility, ensuring adherence to permitted limits.
  • Facilitate effective shift transitions through comprehensive written and verbal communication regarding routine and exceptional operational matters.
  • Perform regular inspections utilizing both sensory and electronic monitoring tools, accurately documenting, analyzing, escalating, and addressing any irregularities.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with team members and other departments (Utilities, Logistics, etc.).
  • Collaborate professionally with colleagues, taking personal responsibility for upholding Shell Norco's standards of continuous personal and professional growth.
  • Execute necessary preventative maintenance, assist in diagnosing potential issues, and support colleagues during unit complications.
  • Ensure safe working conditions for other personnel in accordance with all Norco safety policies.
  • Prepare equipment safely and effectively for maintenance following site protocols.
  • Utilize personal computers and mobile devices to meet daily performance objectives and access plant and unit information.
  • Engage in training and respond to emergency situations as required.
  • Comply with all Norco policies and procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety at workstations and throughout the work environment.
  • Actively participate in the development and execution of assigned group tasks and meetings.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, maintenance technicians, and team members to identify and resolve abnormal conditions, routine maintenance challenges, and planned maintenance activities.
  • Collect samples from the unit, conduct analyses in unit laboratories, and monitor product specifications.
  • Console operators will be tasked with monitoring process variables, adjusting unit conditions for optimization, understanding complex control systems, and responding to alarms in accordance with Safe Production guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Effective communication skills to understand processes and interact with colleagues and customers.
  • Proficiency in using a process computer interface to manage and control operational processes.
  • Preferred: 5 years of relevant experience as a Process Operator in the Oil, Gas, or Chemical sectors.
  • Preferred: At least three years of recent experience as a Process/Production Operator in a catalyst, petrochemical, or refining environment, or equivalent military experience.
  • Preferred: Formal education or training related to production operations or a similar field.
  • Associate of Applied Science degree in Process Technology is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Preferred: Emergency Response and/or Fire Fighting training, experience, and/or certification.
  • Willingness to complete Shell's pre-employment testing requirements.
  • Commitment to a drug-free workplace, including random drug screenings.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation and utilize safe lifting techniques.
  • Willingness to work at heights, climb ladders and stairs, and work in various environmental conditions.
  • Availability for rotating shift schedules, including overtime, holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Readiness to be on call and respond to site responsibilities and emergencies.
  • Commitment to Shell's safety policies and practices.
  • Proficiency in using computers as part of daily operations.
  • Support for Shell's teamwork and diversity initiatives.
  • Willingness to participate in emergency response training as part of the Emergency Response Team.
