POSITION OVERVIEW
Okanagan Specialty Fruits, LLC. (OSF) is in search of a dedicated Sanitation Technician for its apple processing facility. This role is integral to maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards within the facility, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations to mitigate potential risks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct thorough scrubbing, cleaning, and sanitizing of all processing equipment and facility areas on a daily basis post-production.
- Maintain high sanitation standards across all operational areas, including Sizing/Grading, Slice rooms, and Packaging.
- Adhere strictly to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety Policies.
- Analyze the strength of soaps and sanitizers utilized in the sanitation process.
- Execute and document quality checks as per company protocols.
- Contribute to Plant Quality and Safety Programs.
- Foster and uphold a robust Food Safety Culture.
- Engage in and enhance Food Safety & Sanitation initiatives at the facility.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of all scheduled cleaning tasks.
- Validate sanitation effectiveness through visual inspections and swab testing (ATP, Microbial, Allergen) for compliance.
- Be open to cross-training on various sanitation duties.
- Ensure availability and proper stock of sanitation chemicals, supplies, and tools.
- Assist in maintaining the Master Sanitation Schedule to ensure audit readiness.
- Promptly report any facility repair needs to the Supervisor.
- Suggest enhancements to the Sanitation Program, Environmental Program, Pest Control Program, and other relevant initiatives.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Sanitation Supervisor or Manager in their absence.
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:
- Exhibit the highest ethical standards and reliability.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently on diverse tasks.
- Physically capable, as the role involves significant movement, bending, twisting, kneeling, and reaching.
- Comfortable working extended hours in cold and wet environments.
- Proficient in reading, writing, understanding, and speaking English.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Familiarity with scanners and quality control instruments.
- Aptitude for identifying issues and proposing improvements.
- Committed to hygiene practices as per established procedures.
- Capable of completing all required quality and food safety training within designated timeframes.
- Positive attitude and adaptability to change.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a food processing sanitation role is preferred.
- Experience in a Ready-to-Eat (RTE) food manufacturing environment is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Global Harmonized System/SDS is preferred.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Flexibility to work a schedule of 32-40 hours per week, which may include varied start times, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Capability to stand, walk, reach, and move for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including temperature fluctuations and dampness.
- Exposure to elevated noise levels.
- Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including protective clothing, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
