Position Summary
We are in search of a qualified individual with expertise in the maintenance and management of sterile processing apparatus, including sterilizers and washers. Preferred models include Steris' Amsco 400, Amsco 5052, Century V-116, Reliance 1227, and V-Pro Max.
The Senior Biomedical Equipment Specialist will report directly to the Biomed Manager.
This role entails delivering comprehensive medical equipment services autonomously, focusing on high-impact and/or intricate medical equipment systems and specialty domains.
Key responsibilities encompass corrective and preventive maintenance of medical devices, management of asset inventories, oversight of vendor services, and fostering effective relationships with end users.
Core Responsibilities- Execute Corrective Maintenance (CM) tasks on medical devices.
- Conduct Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures on medical devices.
- Perform Incoming Inspection (II) assessments on medical devices.
- Act as the subject-matter expert for high-impact and complex medical equipment systems.
- Collaborate with Information Security and Information Services teams to address implementation and support challenges.
- Cultivate and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues and end users.
- Mentor junior technicians in completing CM, PM, or II tasks on complex medical equipment.
- Guide fellow Biomed technicians to enhance their knowledge and skills.
- Manage and document the activities of subcontractors and vendors to ensure quality service delivery.
- Communicate medical equipment status and performance with clinical staff and leadership.
- Advise administrative and clinical personnel on the safe operation of complex medical devices.
- Assist with assigned projects as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of work orders.
- Ensure the integrity of the medical equipment asset inventory.
- Provide insights regarding the medical equipment asset inventory.
- Recommend strategies for optimizing and innovating medical equipment use.
- Set and pursue educational and professional development goals.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours service.
- Comply with the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) and all regulatory standards.
- Follow all organizational policies and procedures.
- Uphold the Mission, Vision, and Values of Washington Regional Medical Center to promote a positive image of services.
- Education: Associate degree or higher in a technical or electronics field, equivalent military training, or relevant technical experience.
- Licensure: Valid driver's license is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years in a Biomed Department or similar institution, with a focus on medical equipment.
- Strong technical knowledge of computers and CMMS systems.
- Proficient in using advanced and specialized testing equipment.
- Familiarity with wired and wireless networks related to medical devices.
- Understanding of service routines for medical equipment, with the ability to integrate innovations for improved quality and efficiency.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
Work Environment:
This position involves approximately 60% desk work and 40% active engagement, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
