Job Overview

The Materials Supervisor is accountable for managing Inventory Control and Material Handling personnel. This role collaborates with management and hourly staff to implement operations that enhance throughput while ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and safety standards are upheld.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

  • Assist in the recruitment, testing, and onboarding of new team members.
  • Provide direction, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations for all shop floor employees.
  • Complete transfer documentation and assess employee performance in line with transfer protocols.
  • Engage in corrective action processes, in collaboration with the area manager, to meet quality, efficiency, and safety benchmarks.
  • Monitor and maintain all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the area.
  • Coordinate with Leads to optimize employee assignments for timely shipments.
  • Collaborate with management on employee performance and disciplinary matters.
  • Work alongside management on initiatives for product enhancement.
  • Ensure comprehensive cross-training among department staff.
  • Authorize weekly timecards and approve PTO requests.

Quality Assurance

  • Accurately complete documentation related to non-conforming processes.
  • Comply with Marion Body Works Inc. Quality Policy.
  • Investigate the root causes of non-conforming products and propose improvement strategies.

Process Optimization & Improvement

  • Assess workload and collaborate with the production manager to meet production targets.
  • Establish, evaluate, and maintain reasonable goal hours.
  • Organize and allocate work within the area to ensure a smooth and orderly flow to other departments.
  • Participate in product improvement committees as required.
  • Maintain performance reports for the department.

Fundamentals

  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of the mission, values, and ethics of the organization.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment throughout the department.
  • Safeguard company property and equipment.
  • Complete necessary accident reports for assigned personnel.
  • Report any unsafe or malfunctioning machinery to the production manager and maintenance department.
  • Ensure regular attendance to meet customer deadlines.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proficient in computer skills for time entry in ERP systems, assembly drawings, item inquiries, inventory transactions, and Standard Work Instructions.
  • Capable of interpreting work orders, drawings, layouts, sketches, route sheets, and production schedules.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written communications and verbal instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of shop mathematics, including the ability to convert decimals and fractions, and measure according to military specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Conduct 5S checks in the area and report incomplete items.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

Education & Experience

  • Experience in manufacturing, inventory control, warehouse operations, or fabrication is required.
  • An Associate Degree or Vocational Diploma in a related field is preferred.
  • Forklift certification is required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and courteous relationships with customers and colleagues.
