ER Nurse: Trauma and Emergency Care Specialist

The Emergency Department at Albany Medical Center is a Level I Trauma Center, serving as a regional referral center for various patients requiring acute care. We cater to patients of all ages, 24/7.
About the Job
We are seeking a skilled Clinical Nurse to join our team in the Emergency Department. As an ER Nurse, you will be responsible for assessing, coordinating, planning, directing, implementing, and managing the needs of assigned patients throughout their episode of care. Your primary focus will be on progress toward discharge, including during transitions within the acute care stay.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implementing physician orders, administering medications, starting IVs, performing treatments, procedures, and special tests, and documenting treatment as required by company policy and local/state/federal rules and regulations.
- Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' conditions.
- Assessing and evaluating patient needs for, and responses to, care rendered.
- Applying sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
- Providing primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
- Administering over-the-counter and prescription medications as ordered.
- Collaborating with the nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients.
- Directing and guiding ancillary personnel and maintaining standards of professional nursing.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must have a strong background in clinical nursing, preferably in an Emergency Department setting. A minimum of 1-3 years of experience is required, along with a current NYS Registered Nurse license and certification in BLS/ACLS/PALS/TNCC. You should also possess knowledge of quality concepts, principles, and problem-solving tools and techniques.

Work Environment
The Emergency Department is divided into five major zones: Major trauma and critical care, Resuscitation and minor care, Pediatrics, Acute care, and Rapid Care. Each zone has its own waiting area, clinical and clerical workstations, nutrition areas, supply and pharmaceutical dispensing machines, and dedicated radiology suite.
Estimated Salary:
$43.50 per hour (based on industry standards and location). The total estimated annual salary would be approximately $90,120 (assuming a 40-hour workweek).
