At SpaceX, we're pushing the boundaries of space technology to make humanity a multi-planetary species. As a Mechanical Engineer Payload Pointing, you'll play a critical role in developing the pointing requirements, error budgets, and verification plans for our payloads.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the payload team to define pointing requirements and error budgets
  • Perform analyses to verify pointing performance, including thermal distortion, control-structure interaction, and jitter analysis
  • Develop and execute test programs to verify pointing requirements
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, optics, or physics
  • 1 year of work experience with pointing-critical hardware
  • 2 years of experience with finite element analysis
  • 2 years of experience in structural dynamics analysis and testing
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Advanced degree in mechanical engineering, optics, or physics
  • Experience with optics, antennas, actuators, and mechanisms in vibration and vacuum environments
  • Experience with structural-thermal-optical-performance (STOP) analysis
  • Experience with modal survey and finite element model correlation
  • Proficiency in mathematical computing tools such as Python or MATLAB
