Plant Manager

The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall direction and management of the manufacturing plant. This includes overseeing the production process, ensuring quality standards are met, and managing the plant's budget.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing operations, with experience in leading and managing a team. They will be able to analyze problems, develop solutions, and implement changes to improve efficiency and productivity.
The Plant Manager will work closely with the Engineering Manager to design and implement new products, and will be responsible for ensuring that all manufacturing processes are safe and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct manufacturing activities to meet delivery schedules, cost guidelines, and quality standards
- Maintain a favorable employee relations environment, ensuring equitable and consistent administration of the labor contract
- Work with Human Resources to establish and maintain plant rules and personnel policies
- Participate in labor contract negotiations
- Create a work environment with a high sense of urgency
- Direct the efforts of production supervisors and related personnel, ensuring safe work practices and compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations
- Evaluate manufacturing processes and recommend ways to reduce costs while maintaining or improving performance or quality standards
- Coordinate with Engineering Manager in the design of new products to ensure manufacturing processes can be developed to meet customer demand
- Research, analyze, and implement improved manufacturing techniques and equipment, and recommend cost improvement ideas
- Prepare detailed technical specifications for the selection and purchase of capital equipment
- Prepare the total manufacturing budget with input from subordinate and dotted-line managers
- Support and drive operations excellence improvements on a constant and regular basis
- Be a true change agent and drive continuous improvement with passion and enthusiasm
- Implement and maintain the necessary metrics and visual management to drive results
Qualifications/Requirements:
- 5-8 years' experience in a similar role
- A degree in Engineering with experience in Gear Manufacturing (preferred)
- Demonstrated and proven leadership abilities
- Significant experience leading and interacting with an hourly workforce in a union facility
- Effective decision-making abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated capacity management abilities
- Proven problem-solving abilities
