Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Lead 1 to join our team at International Paper. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our plant, while also driving process improvements and quality enhancements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all safety processes and policies are followed daily, based on EHS and OSHA guidelines
  • Execute daily objectives established by management, directing production employees and monitoring progress of assigned tasks
  • Lead the plant Safety Committee, implementing processes and training to improve the safe working environment
  • Serve as a member of the plant leadership team, modeling on-the-job behavior, integrity, fairness, and positive work attitudes
  • Ensure all plant EHS and OSHA documents are completed and maintained
  • Conduct daily toolbox meetings when plant management is not available
  • Assign daily production duties to plant personnel in the absence of management
  • Ensure daily reports are accurately completed and submitted as required
  • Ensure inventory levels are at or below target levels
  • Ensure bales are inspected and monitored for quality, integrity, or downgrade issues
  • Ensure trailer unloading meets quality and accuracy requirements, with a 48-hour turn-around time from full to empty
  • Ensure rail cars are loaded on-time per the rail load schedule
  • Ensure daily plant housekeeping meets plant standards, coordinating housekeeping activities
  • Ensure daily PM sheets are completed
  • Maintain a teamwork atmosphere for all employees
  • Coordinate all activities for assigned areas, including employee understanding of duties, shifting manpower needs, and communicating time constraints and assignments
  • Perform inspections of wrap-up activities and attend briefings with Supervisor and Plant Manager to review operational concerns
  • Maintain a smooth, continuous, efficient operation, assisting the team in any function or role as needed
  • Backfill any positions in the plant as needed
  • Ensure plant member adherence to all policies, rules, and requirements, coaching team members as appropriate
  • Communicate and document all contractor and visitor training
  • Ensure PM sheets are completed, signed, and turned into management
  • Communicate PM needs to Manager and Superintendent
  • Communicate any injuries, near-miss opportunities, or building damage immediately to management
  • Perform inspections of wrap-up activities and attend briefings with Supervisor and Plant Manager to review operational concerns
  • Maintain a smooth, continuous, efficient operation, assisting the team in any function or role as needed
  • Backfill any positions in the plant as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Ability to attend PIT Training, Loader Training, Lock-out/Tag-Out
  • Ability to operate/monitor the following equipment: Baler, In-feed Conveyors, Loader, Forklift
Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work any shift as needed
  • Ability to work overtime/weekends as needed
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Ability to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to lift heavy materials
  • Excellent time management, planning, and organizational skills

  • Ability to use computers on a daily basis to perform simple tasks, including email communication, use of company multi-line phone system, use of fax/copier machines, and data entry on company's software and MS Office suite (Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel preferred)
