Medical Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at Northwestern Medicine. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience for patients and families.
- Take and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, height, and blood pressure, to monitor patient health and well-being.
- Measure and record intake and output, including output from drains, to ensure accurate patient care.
- Apply cardiac monitors and oximetry to patients, as needed, to monitor their condition.
- Obtain EKGs and other diagnostic tests, as ordered by healthcare providers, to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Perform normal newborn hearing screening and other developmental assessments to ensure early detection and intervention.
- Collect and process specimens, including urine, stool, blood, and sputum, for laboratory analysis.
- Assist with patient care activities, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding, to promote patient comfort and dignity.
- Respond to patient call lights and emergency situations, providing timely and compassionate care to patients and families.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, including data collection and analysis, to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance patient care.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, nurses, and other team members to ensure seamless communication and coordination of patient care.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- CNA certification or currently enrolled in a school of nursing with successful completion of basic clinical rotations.
- CPR - Basic Life Support recognition by the American Heart Association.
- Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
- Unit-based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
- Associate's degree or one year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, families, nursing, and medical staff.
This role will be based in a fast-paced healthcare environment, requiring the ability to work effectively in a team setting and adapt to changing priorities and situations.
