About the Position

Nevada State University is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Library Specialist to join our team in the University Library. As a key member of our library staff, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accessibility, affordability, and effective management of library resources and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electronic Resources and Holdings Management
    • Manage the workflows for importing batch records from various sources, including outsourced cataloging vendors, OCLC WorldShare, and other vendors, in coordination with the Electronic Resources Librarian.
    • Apply customer service expertise to communicate with publishers, vendors, and users to resolve access problems to electronic resources.
    • Perform technical troubleshooting requiring knowledge of content platforms, web services, and applications.
    • Identify complex problems and refer them to the Dean of the Library, the Electronic Resources Librarian, or to ITS personnel as appropriate.
    • Keep abreast of changes in electronic resource platforms, URLs, and other changes, and apply necessary updates to maintain user access.
  • Interlibrary Loan and Resource Sharing Management
    • Review, document, analyze, and evaluate activities, workflows, and policies to establish priorities and assess the effectiveness of Interlibrary Loan services.
    • Manage the interlibrary borrowing and lending request process using various online systems and respond to patron queries.
    • Verify citation and location information for materials using both electronic and print sources.
    • Develop and maintain knowledge of request methods, holdings, and relevant delivery arrangements as they apply to specific user groups.
    • Communicate policies and procedures to users and create resource sharing documentation.
  • Cataloging and Metadata Management
    • Manage the selection of bibliographic records for library materials in a variety of formats, using judgment to select the best available bibliographic record, search WorldCat through OCLC WorldShare Record Manager, and verify bibliographic details.
    • Manage the physical processing of new library materials, added copies and volumes, replacements, and rebound materials, including assigning, printing, and affixing correct identifiers and labels.
    • Manage a variety of collection maintenance tasks, including withdrawal of outdated library materials, transfer of library materials as needed, preparation of materials for cataloging, and support of inventory control and accountability for anatomical models and computer equipment.
    • Perform minor repairs and in-house binding.
    • Streamline processes for metadata cleanup and provide support for metadata transformation using remediation tools such as MarcEdit.
  • Textbook Affordability Management
    • Manage the discovery and adoption of library-licensed ebooks as required textbooks in Nevada State course sections.
    • Manage and maintain a sustainable workflow for capturing textbook affordability conversions and metrics.
  • Rotational Assignments: Service Desk Management, Oversee Accounting Processes
    • In the absence of primary staff members, oversee service desk management and accounting processes.
  • Training and Professional Development
    • Engage proactively in professional training opportunities, departmental meetings, functions, and events.
    • Continuously update and enhance knowledge and skills in both primary and backup responsibilities.
    • Recognize areas for improvement and pursue targeted solutions to strengthen skills with appropriate guidance.
