Position Summary:
Under supervision, the operator is responsible for managing an assigned process through the operation of wastewater treatment machinery. Daily activities include maintaining a log of routine operations. The role is situated in an industrial setting, with potential exposure to various environmental factors such as dust, odors, and temperature fluctuations. Employees typically work rotating shifts as scheduled by management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and operate designated plant processes.
  • Control treatment plant equipment by initiating, halting, and adjusting semi-automatic controls, while identifying and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, referring maintenance issues to the shift supervisor as necessary.
  • Record and analyze meter and gauge readings from machinery.
  • Collect periodic samples for laboratory evaluation.
  • Conduct tests for process management.
  • Document activities in logs and prepare daily operational reports using Excel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment:
The position involves working 12-hour rotating shifts, with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the workplace is generally moderate.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or higher.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in operating and/or maintaining wastewater treatment equipment.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with wastewater treatment equipment operations.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based computer systems.
  • Understanding of the operation and adjustment of valves, mechanical pumps, motors, chemical feed systems, and semi-automatic controls.
  • Knowledge of sampling and laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to interpret various dials, meters, and gauges.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Capability to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

Certifications:
Possession of a valid driver's license.

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to communicate effectively, stand, walk, sit, and use hands for various tasks. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and wear breathing apparatus for confined space entry. Vision requirements include both close and distance vision.
