This role is designed for a hybrid work environment, combining both in-office and remote responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Tax Compliance Analyst, you will take the lead in managing and enhancing S&P Global's transaction tax compliance efforts, including sales and use tax, as well as GST/HST/QST. Your contributions will be vital to the organization's success and growth.
Primary Duties
The following responsibilities outline the expectations for this position, though they are not exhaustive:
1. Oversee and facilitate the company's transaction tax compliance activities, focusing on US Sales and Use tax, as well as Canadian GST/HST and Provincial taxes.
2. Generate reports, perform reconciliations, and submit transaction tax returns as required.
3. Drive process improvements and documentation initiatives.
4. Assist in maintaining monthly compliance metrics and trackers.
5. Collaborate with the tax team on various credit/refund opportunities, which will involve research, data gathering, and presentation.
6. Support audits related to US sales and use tax, including requests for supporting documentation and other inquiries.
7. Engage in cross-departmental projects that align with the company's strategic objectives.
8. Participate in system testing and validation of transactions as part of ongoing tax process enhancements.
9. Conduct and review monthly transaction tax account reconciliations and related journal entries.
10. Provide timely assistance and effective guidance to business colleagues regarding transaction tax issues.
11. Lead technology initiatives and support transformation projects.
12. Ensure adherence to transaction tax laws and regulations in the jurisdictions where S&P Global operates.
13. Collaborate with the global tax team and cross-functional partners to support S&P Global's initiatives and business priorities.
14. Drive tax recovery opportunities and other compliance-related activities.
Compensation and Benefits
For candidates in the US, the anticipated base salary range for this position is between $61,846 and $118,000. The final salary will be determined based on geographic location, experience, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan and additional benefits provided by S&P Global.
Essential Qualifications
1. A minimum of 5 years of experience in sales/use tax compliance and audits.
2. In-depth knowledge of sales and use tax regulations and applications.
3. Familiarity with tax software such as Vertex and SAP/Oracle Fusion is advantageous.
4. Proven compliance skills and knowledge within the technology sector is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (e.g., Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
2. Strong analytical and organizational capabilities.
3. A solid background in tax technology tools.
4. Experience with the Department of Revenue or industry experience is preferred.
5. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
6. Ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
7. Prior experience leading and supporting sales and use tax audits.
8. Strong research skills and the ability to support or lead sales tax recovery initiatives.
