Position SummaryThe Patient Care Technician - Float embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adhering to our Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program. This role is essential in providing care to patients with chronic conditions and disabilities within a rehabilitation setting, as part of an interdisciplinary care team.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with basic nursing care activities under the supervision of a registered nurse, including monitoring vital signs and recording patient data.
- Support patients with personal care and daily living activities, such as bathing, grooming, and feeding.
- Facilitate the use of assistive devices and prosthetics according to individual patient needs.
- Implement preventive skin care measures as directed and report any changes in skin condition to nursing staff.
- Assist with patient mobility and transfers using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Support bladder and bowel programs, including the collection of laboratory specimens.
- Perform 12-lead EKGs as ordered.
- Assist patients in completing daily menus within set timeframes.
- Deliver meal trays and snacks under the guidance of nursing staff.
- Conduct patient rounding to monitor and support patient needs.
- Utilize de-escalation techniques for managing agitated or aggressive behaviors.
- Maintain and organize unit equipment inventories.
- Report any abnormal findings or changes in patient conditions to nursing staff promptly.
- Ensure patient rooms are kept clean and orderly.
- Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Employ critical thinking skills to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently as unit needs evolve.
- Act as a liaison between patient care units and other departments.
- Answer calls and intercom messages professionally, relaying information to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with daily admission and discharge processes as needed.
Required:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Nursing students who have completed two clinical rotations.
- If not a nursing student, candidates must have one of the following: Certified Nursing Experience, Medical Assistant, EMT, or Paramedic certification.
- CPR - Basic Life Support certification.
Preferred:
- Graduation from an accredited Nursing Assistant program.
