About the Role

Hospital for Special Surgery is seeking a highly skilled Health Information Management Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our HIM department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient medical records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and analyze health information data to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Support a high-efficiency team to ensure patient medical records are accurate and complete
  • Perform multiple entry-level functions pertaining to various areas in the HIM department
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accuracy and integrity of health information data
  • Identify and resolve documentation deficiencies and update their status
  • Process ROI requests and validate patient information using MPI
  • Use different EMR systems in daily HIM operations
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associates degree preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in HIM department preferred
  • Knowledge of Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office products, Electronic Health Records, Document Imaging Systems, and office equipment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, medical procedures, medications, and laboratory tests
  • Basic understanding of State and Federal Guidelines, Joint Commission Accreditation Standards
