Job Title: Heavy Civil Estimator

Clarkson Construction Company is a leading firm in the heavy civil construction industry, with a proud history of delivering complex infrastructure projects across the Kansas City region. We are currently seeking a skilled Heavy Civil Estimator to join our dynamic team and contribute to our legacy of building the foundations for future generations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for grading, paving, and bridge construction projects by analyzing project drawings, specifications, and other documentation.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of potential projects to determine feasibility, risk, and profitability.
  • Liaise with vendors and subcontractors to solicit and evaluate bids, ensuring all estimates include up-to-date pricing and availability of materials and labor.
  • Engage with clients during the bidding process to clarify project requirements, adjustments, and to foster strong professional relationships.
  • Maintain detailed records of all estimations, bids, and initial project specifications to ensure transparency and accuracy in project initiation.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of estimation within heavy civil construction, specifically with grading, paving, and/or bridge projects.
  • Exposure to estimation software (e.g., Agtek Gradework, Highway, Underground and Materials, AutoCAD, HCSS HeavyBid, and/or Bid2Win, Bluebeam Revu).
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of construction processes, materials, and the latest industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Design-build experience.
  • AASHTOWare experience.
  • Cross-section and mass haul analysis.
  • Previous field experience in surveying and/or project management.
