POSITION OVERVIEW

The Patient Access Coordinator is responsible for acquiring accurate demographic and insurance details to facilitate patient registration, confirm insurance benefits, and manage patient financial obligations.

WORK SCHEDULE

PRN - Day Shift Coverage - Preference for candidates available on weekends

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts patient interviews to gather essential demographic and financial information for registration, insurance verification, precertification, and billing processes.
  • Registers patients across various locations and operates in multiple areas within the department, understanding patient flow in each section. Identifies opportunities for process enhancements that foster teamwork and improve revenue cycle operations and patient satisfaction.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with other departments to relay pertinent information regarding patient delays and schedule changes.
  • Confirms patient eligibility for insurance coverage and determines appropriate benefit levels for expected services. Calculates and collects patient liabilities according to financial clearance policies for existing and delinquent accounts. Advises patients on deposit requirements and negotiates payment plans as necessary.
  • May be responsible for cashiering duties in accordance with established policies and procedures, which may constitute a significant portion of the role.
  • Provides assistance to patients navigating to nursing units, including offering directions, personal escorting, and mobility support (e.g., wheelchairs) when required.
  • Ensures compliance with order validations, cash handling policies, government payer regulations, and patient safety protocols for accurate patient identification.
  • Escalates potential service issues to management when appropriate.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism in high-pressure and emotionally charged environments, including situations involving crime, behavioral health, and critically ill patients.
  • Exhibits a high degree of empathy and effectively communicates with patients and their families during distressing situations, demonstrating outstanding customer service.
  • Capable of managing multiple, shifting priorities in an organized and effective manner.
  • Proficient in data entry, numerical skills, typing, and navigating computer systems.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
