Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Supervisory General Engineer to join our team at the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Commander in Chief. As a key member of our Engineering and Planning Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the success of our Fleet Technical Support and Industry Management Engineering Oversight Division.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct, coordinate, and oversee the work of subordinates, setting priorities and preparing schedules for the completion of work.
  • Set and develop performance standards and evaluate the performance of subordinates.
  • Identify and approve developmental and training needs for subordinates.
  • Adjust and alter operations, finding and implementing ways to improve business practices.
  • Resolve employees' complaints and concerns, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to the Division Manager.
  • Work with parent department to ensure manning requirements are met and that all detachment projects have adequate engineering and planning support personnel assigned.
  • Represent the Deputy Chief Engineer on all matters relating to Technical Authority, including interpreting and ensuring compliance with technical requirements, standards, and policies.
  • Oversee formal work and test certification program for ship's systems required to support project key events.
  • Apply a wide range of concepts, practices, regulations, and policies to permit rapid analysis of interrelated problems.
  • Apply techniques for developing new or modified work methods, approaches, and procedures.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer ensuring project work meets technical standards and compliance by planning and/or coordinating the direction and progress of engineering projects and devising solutions to resolve technical issues, conditions, or problems for the repair, maintenance, and/or modernization of vessels.

Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management:

  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • OR Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
