Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ultrasound Tech II to join our team at Covenant Health (Tennessee). As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing routine and specialized ultrasound procedures, maintaining a safe ultrasound environment, and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform ultrasound procedures under the order of a licensed medical practitioner for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Ensure sonography examination orders are complete and contain relevant information.
  • Conduct patient clinical assessments, obtain and document pertinent clinical information, and technical findings for review by physicians.
  • Identify and document any limitations to the sonography examination.
  • Review examination images, synthesize examination results, and prepare preliminary findings for physician interpretation.
  • Document incidental findings that might impact patient safety or patient care.
  • Demonstrate competency in critical thinking skills, including addressing the age-specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Follow established processes for supply charging, stock maintenance, and vendor ordering.
  • Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of an ACR-accredited Ultrasound Department and related equipment to produce high-quality ultrasound images.
  • Select appropriate associated equipment/data manipulation to achieve desired results with factors influencing data acquisition.
  • Technically proficient in the operation and quality control aspects of scanning and image recording equipment specific to the assigned work area.
  • Identify and screen patients, obtain patient history, and complete and verify accurate consents, informed consents, and/or permits as needed.
  • Perform quality imaging procedures through technical expertise of equipment and procedure protocols.
  • Assist physicians with US procedures when needed, following Joint Commission procedures regarding medication preparation/usage on patients for minimally invasive procedures.
  • Follow policy regarding time out prior to minimally invasive procedures being performed, practicing aseptic techniques and using universal precautions.
  • Apply appropriate infection prevention techniques and processes.
  • Provide patient instructions/education to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety during exams.
  • Position patients for ultrasound imaging using immobilization and protective equipment to minimize risk to patients, self, and others.
  • Position patients and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patients' ability, safety, and comfort.
  • Provide for psychological and physical needs of patients for ultrasound imaging procedures, proficient in patient assessment and monitoring.
  • Adhere to facility policies and procedures, ACR regulations, the Joint Commission standards, and other regulatory compliance for the ultrasound department/facility.
  • Provide patient services consistent with the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for Diagnostic Sonographer, assuming responsibility for patient needs during procedures and assisting patients, families, practitioners, and visitors as needed.
  • Proficient in required data entry, record maintenance, and statistical data.
  • Maintain patients' confidential records, reports, and files, following established HIPAA guidelines.
  • Stay current in Basic Life Support (BLS) and perform BLS as needed.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards, completing required education assignments annually, working toward achieving goals and objectives, and participating in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below-indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
  • Minimum Experience: Clinical training appropriate to the specified modality and registered in at least one (1) ultrasound modality.

Licensure Requirement: Must have and maintain ARDMS, ARRT (S), ARRT (VS), or CCI licensure. State licensure in accordance with Tennessee guidelines.
