Support Services Assistant

This position is located in the Department of Rehabilitation, where the successful candidate will provide reasonable accommodation associated with work-related activities to support persons who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) with performing necessary job assignments.
The Support Services Assistant-Interpreter (SSA-I) will facilitate communication between individuals with hearing impairments and hearing persons, serve as an interpreter to include interpreting confidential information, accompany staff members to places of business where interpreting services are otherwise unavailable, and perform other duties related to assisting the communication process.
Interpreting services will be performed in-person and virtually dependent on the needs of the D/HH individual and the venue.
The SSA-I will work under the supervision and direction of the Manager and guidance from the designated employee.
Working Conditions
Permanent Intermittent employees are expected to work 1500 hours in a calendar year first before additional hours can be considered and approved.
The anticipated time worked will be approximately 30 hours per week.
The interpreter is required to provide in-person services anytime the deaf and hard of hearing employee is present in the office.
The interpreter will primarily support the headquarters and provide field support on an as-needed basis.
Special Requirements
- The position requires fluency in the American Sign Language language.
- Applicants must successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.
