We are seeking a highly skilled Sensor Technologies Specialist to join our team at Takeda. As a key member of our Process Development group, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and implementing sensor technologies to solve existing and emerging measurement requirements for our ongoing and planned processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop advanced sensor technologies to meet the needs of our synthetic molecule process development activities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to interface with manufacturing and drive the implementation of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) to realize a paradigm shift to data-rich manufacturing and enable automation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on interdisciplinary departmental and cross-functional workstreams, and work to democratize PAT across the global Process Development function.
  • Stay current on emerging trends, new technologies, and external communities & consortia related to novel metrology techniques, particularly for liquid and powders.
Accountabilities
  • Assist in the development of end-to-end control strategies & systems for drug substance synthetic molecule continuous manufacturing processes.
  • Work with cross-functional and/or external partners to develop and deploy next-generation sensor solutions.
  • Develop a modular plug & play sensor architecture.
  • Independently design and execute experiments for validation of novel sensor technologies.
  • Partner with Automation, Manufacturing, Process Engineers & PAT experts to develop metrology solutions that are deployable across the global organization for the measurement and/or detection of quantities of interest in drug substance manufacturing.
  • Enable automation technology projects with the development and application of appropriate measurement solutions.
  • Assist with the development of project strategy and communicate complex technologies within the department and cross-functionally as necessary.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key vendors and assist with technical aspects of vendor negotiations.
  • Responsible for authoring relevant sections of regulatory documents, reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Proactively analyze technical issues and coordinate potential resolution with team members.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemometrics, Chemical or Electrical Engineering, or related pharmaceutical science, with 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Masters degree in Physics, Chemometrics, Chemical Engineering, or related pharmaceutical science, with 6+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • PhD in Physics, Chemical Engineering, or related pharmaceutical science, with 0+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of optical and electronic metrology techniques.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, OPCUA, etc.
  • Experienced with communicating and data collection from systems such as sensors, controllers, and industrial systems.
  • Good knowledge of the state of the art in existing PAT, a plus.
  • Experience with Matlab/Python/R/SQL, a plus.
  • Experience in multivariate analysis and/or statistical and/or mechanistic and/or deep learning methodologies, a plus.
  • Understanding of synthetic molecule process development activities, a plus.
  • Understanding of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), a plus.
