General Repair Worker

At the State of Minnesota, we are seeking a skilled General Repair Worker to join our team. As a General Repair Worker, you will assist trade employees in performing semi-skilled work in a variety of trade areas both in and outdoors. This position frequently works independently and typically repairs various types of equipment as well as building repairs.
Responsibilities:- Perform minor repairs of plumbing, carpentry, plaster, furniture, ceiling tile and grid, doors, and locks, cut keys, windows and other apparatus.
- Perform minor repairs to W/C, Broda chairs, walkers, and beds.
- Document preventative maintenance tasks.
- Assist in snow removal and salting of campus during winter months.
- Operate vehicles such as trucks, vans, skid steers, and personal lifts to transport and complete needed work.
- Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g., mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and repair machinery, tools, and facilities in a timely and safe manner.
- Occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to perform the job duties safely and efficiently.
- Safely use hand and power hand tools.
- Safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other grounds and maintenance equipment.
- Follow instructions and provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
This position requires a valid Class D Driver's License. A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position(s). When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check. A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment. Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
