Job Title: Virtualization Engineer

Princeton University is seeking a skilled Virtualization Engineer to join its Office of Information Technology (OIT). The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the university's virtualization infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain the enterprise virtualization platform, including 1600+ virtual machines, to ensure optimum performance and security across multiple data centers.
  • Perform daily management, monitoring, and administration of Virtualization Platform, Windows Servers, Linux systems, and various infrastructure technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with asset, change, incident, and problem management processes and policies.
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation, as well as change and problem management information.
  • Respond to after-hours alerts, incidents, and outages as part of the on-call support rotation.
  • Work closely with OIT groups and technical staff in University departments to deliver a robust, resilient, and secure virtualization infrastructure to meet University needs.
Qualifications:
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in maintaining and supporting enterprise hypervisor environments such as VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or Nutanix Acropolis.
  • Demonstrated success in migrating VMs from one platform to another.
  • Experience with Windows Server administration, on-prem or in the cloud.
  • Proficiency in programming or scripting using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or API REST.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructures, such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to continually learn new approaches and skills beyond areas of expertise as IT infrastructure and services change over time.
  • Demonstrated successes working in a collaborative environment, leading small projects, delivering solutions, and working independently.
