Job Summary

The City of Ypsilanti is seeking a highly skilled Fire Fighter/EMT to join our team. As a Fire Fighter/EMT, you will be responsible for responding to emergency calls, extinguishing fires, and providing medical assistance to those in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency calls and perform rescue and emergency work in both fire and non-fire situations
  • Operate firefighting equipment and apparatus, including trucks, hydraulics, hoses, and ladders
  • Perform emergency medical techniques at the scene and prepare follow-up reports on calls
  • Act as a dispatcher, answering emergency phone calls and gathering important information
  • Restore and maintain trucks and equipment to ensure they are operational and ready for emergencies
  • Participate in educational programs, training, and practice drills to maintain EMT certification
  • Maintain public relations with the community, providing fire prevention classes and fire station tours
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • State of Michigan Firefighter I & II Certification
  • State of Michigan EMT Basic Certification
  • Valid certificate of completion of Conference of Western Wayne written and physical ability tests
  • Current ARC or AHA CPR certification
  • A current Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Certification or equivalent is preferred
  • Hazardous Material Operation Level is required
