Merchants Insurance Group, a prominent provider in Property and Casualty Insurance, presents an exceptional career opportunity for a Senior Corporate Risk Underwriter to become a vital member of our collaborative Corporate Underwriting team.


The Senior Corporate Risk Underwriter serves as a key authority in commercial lines underwriting. This role is primarily responsible for establishing underwriting appetite, guidelines, workflows, and training for all commercial lines offerings. The individual will ensure the effective implementation of the underwriting process across all designated offices, which encompasses exposure assessment, coverage evaluation, portfolio scrutiny, and loss examination.

This position is also tasked with achieving commercial lines loss ratio and production objectives through thorough underwriting referrals, quality assessments, and educational initiatives.

Moreover, the Senior Corporate Risk Underwriter will oversee and ensure the successful execution of Home Office Underwriting Reviews, compliance oversight, and reinsurance referrals.

Merchants offers a flexible Hybrid work schedule, requiring 8 full days per month in the office, while allowing the option to work remotely or in the office for the remaining days. Key Responsibilities:


- Develop and implement underwriting appetite, guidelines, training materials, and loss control requirements for both new and renewal policies.

- Support regional offices in achieving profit and production targets through the referral process, underwriting audits, training, and loss assessments.

- Provide technical guidance and support to field teams and other corporate departments to ensure regulatory compliance, including testing automated and manual systems for adherence to filings and insurance codes.

- Monitor total insured values (TIV) and catastrophe (CAT) exposure in line with the company's CAT strategy.

- Act as Project Lead or team member on initiatives involving underwriting and loss control, employing project management strategies to meet objectives.


Qualifications & Skills:

- A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience is required; a master's degree is preferred.
- CPCU or other insurance-related coursework is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 10 years of underwriting experience, with management experience preferred.
- Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.
- Familiarity with local industry trends and developments is beneficial.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to navigate internal company systems is required.

Compensation and Benefits:

- Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive salary structure, with compensation determined based on experience and other lawful factors. The salary range for this position is $85,872 - $126,000.
