Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. As a Behavioral Support Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing instructional and behavioral support to students with exceptional needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of students with exceptionalities.
  • Design and deliver instructional strategies that promote academic and behavioral growth, including positive behavioral interventions and supports.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create a comprehensive educational environment that addresses the diverse needs of students.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to inform instructional decisions and drive student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Stay up-to-date with local, state, and federal regulations and laws related to exceptional children, and implement best practices in special education.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • North Carolina Teaching License and Certification in Special Education.
  • State-approved training for seclusion and restraint procedures (desirable).
  • Master's degree in Special Education (desirable).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of classroom management and differentiation techniques.
  • Ability to use research-based techniques in instruction and behavior management.
  • Experience with inclusive practices and differentiated instruction.
Working Conditions

The work requires a combination of walking, sitting, and standing. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work at times requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to carry, push, or pull light weights. Will regularly require sufficient physical strength and ability to exert physical effort as needed for crisis intervention or handling objects over 30 pounds.
