Support Staff for Special Education

As an Education Assistant with ESS Education, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational needs of students with special requirements. Under the guidance of a certified classroom teacher, you will assist with instructional, behavior management, and administrative duties. Your primary responsibility will be to provide support to students with special needs, ensuring their physical, behavioral, and academic needs are met throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide instructional reinforcement to individual students and/or small groups under the direction of the classroom teacher
- Assist with classroom management and general supervision of the class, following established routines and procedures
- Support students with special needs by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 Plans
- Supervise students in various settings, including the cafeteria, schoolyard, hallways, and during special activities
- Observe student behavior and progress, keeping notes and reporting to the classroom teacher and/or other school designee(s)
- Assist with administrative duties, such as recording grades and preparing materials for instruction
- Promote a safe and orderly classroom environment, taking all reasonable precautions to protect students, facilities, and materials
- Assist with bus loading and unloading during arrival and departure of students
- Demonstrate cooperation and flexibility in performing other related duties as assigned by school administration and ESS
Qualifications
- Minimum of associate degree or 48 combined college credit hours
- Pass a background check
- Negative tuberculosis test and NC health sheet
