Substation Physical Designer Job Summary

POWER Engineers is seeking a skilled Substation Physical Designer to join our Power Delivery Substation Department in Boston, Massachusetts. This role offers a hybrid work environment and the possibility of remote work for experienced individuals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a team to complete complex substation design projects, adhering to client standards and guidelines.
  • Perform detailed physical design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations, including one-line diagrams, physical layouts, and equipment selection.
  • Work with engineers to develop drawing packages and coordinate designs with other disciplines.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control programs, contributing to project scheduling and budget management.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent technical education.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation, with both preferred.
  • Understanding of electric utility substation design, electrical and mechanical reasoning skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong command of the English language, with good written and oral communication skills.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Three or more years of experience in electric utility substation design.
  • Familiarity with Raster Design and/or Bentley Descartes.
  • Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, client examples, vendor drawings, and such.
