Radiation Therapist

Inova Health System is seeking a highly skilled Radiation Therapist to join our team.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with physicians to ensure safe and effective use of ionizing radiation in patient care.
- Attend hospital committees, such as the Radiation Safety Committee, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a professional working relationship with department directors and Medical Directors.
- Provide Medical Physics coverage as needed, including radiation shield design and equipment testing.
- Oversee the acceptance of new medical equipment and imaging networks.
- Perform calculations and measurements to develop new treatment and imaging techniques.
- Review and verify calibration protocols to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Investigate and evaluate new equipment and technologies to reduce costs and improve performance.
- Compare data with other radiation therapy institutions to ensure best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with clinical and dosimetry literature in the field.
- Develop and maintain contacts with physicists in other practices.
- Confers with physicians regarding patient dosages, equipment evaluation, and quality assurance.
- Cooperate with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with applicable rules and recommendations.
- Confers with vendors regarding purchase specifications, acceptance testing, and quality assurance.
- Maintain dosimetry records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Discuss radiation exposure with patients and other members of the public.
- Deliver physics lectures to Inova personnel on radiation-related topics.
- A master's degree in Physics or a related field is required; a doctoral degree is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Clinical Medical Physics.
- Board certification by the American Board of Radiology is required.
- Virginia Inspector certification within the first two months of hire.
- Availability to work outside of normal business hours is required.
- Knowledge of scripting and experience with Raystation treatment planning system are preferred.
- Prior experience with proton therapy is preferred.
- Strong communication skills are essential.
