Job Summary

RailWorks is seeking a highly skilled Craft Superintendent to oversee track maintenance crews, ensuring safe, cost-effective, and high-quality performance. This role requires a strong background in railroad construction and management, with expertise in Federal Track Safety Standards (FTSS) and Federal Roadway Worker Safety (FRWS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, monitor, and coordinate construction/maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient operation of track systems and equipment.
  • Manage and implement inspection schedules, preventive maintenance, and repair programs for track systems and equipment.
  • Assist in the initiation and implementation of policies and procedures associated with track and structures maintenance and inspection.
  • Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of track inspection and maintenance crews, including adherence to work plans and budgets, performance, quality, and safety.
  • Investigate and diagnose track failures, difficult maintenance problems, and critical safety issues, and render corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Recommend improvement in work methods and techniques to correct maintenance deficiencies.
  • Assign, direct, and supervise work performed by track workers in accordance with work plans and established priorities.
  • Make recommendations regarding the establishment of policies and procedures for programs affecting safety and operational effectiveness.
  • Enforce company policy and local, state, and federally mandated regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits and safety meetings.
  • Ensure safe and economical use of labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Provide technical support to track workers.
  • Prepare and present verbal and written reports and recommendations to project team.
  • Train and supervise staff.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years of railroad construction and management experience, including a thorough knowledge of construction industry practice, methods, processes, and standards.
  • Knowledge of Federal Track Safety Standards (FTSS) and Federal Roadway Worker Safety (FRWS) and must be qualified for Part 213.
  • Knowledge of the methods and procedures required to carry out large-scale track construction and maintenance, structures maintenance, and to monitor system-wide inspections.
  • Knowledge of railroad rules, regulations, and procedures and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Ability to diagnose and correct difficult construction, maintenance, and safety problems.
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend new procedures to upgrade and refine existing programs.
  • Experience supervising staff and the ability to clearly communicate instructions to staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
Working Conditions

This role requires working outdoors at job sites, working around moving machines, vehicles, and equipment, and frequently standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, and crouching while negotiating work areas under construction. May lift/carry and push/pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds, climb poles, ladders, and large structures, and occasionally work in confined spaces. Exposed to harsh weather conditions, including extremely hot and extremely cold weather, and loud noise.
