Electrical Design Engineer Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our team in Boston, MA. As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing electrical systems for various public and private sector facilities projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform site surveys of existing system conditions for interface of new designs with existing electrical and control systems.
  • Design electrical systems, including low/medium voltage power distribution, standby/emergency generation, interior/exterior lighting for buildings, and low voltage systems such as access control, security, and fire alarm systems.
  • Prepare electrical design criteria documents, electrical design directive drawings, electrical system calculations, electrical system technical analyses, electrical system contract design drawings, detailed specifications, and performance-based specifications for electrical power distribution and related systems.
  • Lead and participate in meetings with clients, state agencies, city agencies, utility service representatives, and project teams.
  • Deliver projects on time and within client budgets.
  • Deliver projects in compliance with client and company quality control procedures and engineering guidelines.
  • Participate on project teams in an active production role.
  • Prepare project specifications and electrical construction cost estimates.
  • Coordinate and verify as-built drawings.
  • Perform quality work that promotes client retention.
Requirements:
  • Minimum Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in the engineering and design of electrical systems.
  • Electrical power design experience is required.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • Firm understanding of the National Electrical Code, other NFPA codes/standards, and energy codes.
  • Experience with facility surveys, reports, feasibility studies, design, specifications, cost estimating, and construction activity support.
  • Proficient on Autocad.
  • Experience with Revit.
  • Experience with MicroStation is a plus.
  • Experience in Power Studies, such as Short Circuit Study, Coordination Study, and Arc Flash Analysis is preferred.
  • Proficiency using SKM Power Tools Software or ETAP is preferred.
  • Security and communication design experience.
  • Project management and leadership skills, capable of driving the successful completion of projects is a plus.
