Compensation: $50/hour for clinical duties; $15/hour for non-clinical responsibilities

Your Contribution

As a Rehabilitation Therapist, you will assess the intricate dynamics between clients, their activities, and the environments in which they operate. Key interventions may include:

  • Facilitating full participation in educational and social contexts for clients with disabilities
  • Supporting clients in recovering essential skills post-injury or surgery
  • Providing assistance to older adults facing cognitive or physical transitions

Role Summary

Rehabilitation Therapists play a vital role in enhancing the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by concentrating on activities and objectives that hold significance for both the individuals and their families. Areas of focus encompass cognitive, sensory, perceptual, motor, and psychosocial activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver quality care by evaluating client needs and developing tailored occupational therapy treatment plans.
  • Assist clients in developing or regaining physical or mental capabilities or adapting to disabilities through:
  1. Implementing programs involving creative arts and crafts
  2. Engaging in functional, vocational, daily living, sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities
  3. Guiding aides, instructors, and assistants
Encourage maximum independence by customizing therapies based on individual physical abilities, cognitive levels, and interests.Monitor therapy outcomes by observing and documenting client progress, making necessary adjustments as needed.Adhere to established care plans by providing skilled interventions aligned with SMART OT goals.Maintain thorough documentation of therapy services in client and departmental records.Uphold client confidentiality and safeguard organizational operations by ensuring information security.Enhance professional knowledge through workshops, literature review, networking, and participation in professional organizations.Develop and lead training programs for My Possibilities staff.Comply with all legal and certification standards by staying informed on relevant legislation and advising management on necessary actions.Meet clinical expectations and billing timelines for documentation and evaluations.Perform additional duties as required.

This role may involve assisting with client behaviors and collaborating with program staff to implement effective techniques and tools for client success in various environments.

Required Competencies

  • Experience working with adults with special needs is advantageous.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (sign language proficiency is a plus).
  • Interest and experience in utilizing Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices is beneficial.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Creative problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated patience in challenging situations
  • Adaptability in managing complex scenarios

Experience Requirements

  • Preferred: At least 1 year of relevant experience

Specialized Knowledge

  • Current State of Texas OT License required
  • Liability Insurance in Texas is mandatory
  • Current CPR and CPI certifications are necessary
  • Ability to pass a background check with no offenses affecting program integrity
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and car insurance are required

Dependent on the level of experience and organizational needs.

Work Environment

My Possibilities operates on a campus model, with therapy typically conducted in office or classroom settings, along with opportunities for community-based therapy as appropriate. Familiarity with standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers is essential. This position may involve managing behavioral situations in various settings, which could require physical activity such as running, lifting, bending, and crouching.
