About the Position

Northern Illinois University is seeking a highly qualified Diagnostic Clinician to join our team. As a Diagnostic Clinician, you will conduct specialized assessments of children placed in substitute care and their former guardians.

Your primary responsibility will be to develop a DSM-5 diagnostic impression, estimate violence potential, and assess parenting capacity. You will also complete specialized reports that inform treatment planning and develop permanency plans for children.

You will work from home, with some regional travel to conduct assessments within the region in which you reside.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a DSM-5 diagnostic impression through highly specialized trauma-focused assessments.
  • Conduct early childhood developmental screenings and other assessments of abused and neglected children.
  • Assess youth to inform recommendations for treatment, including the appropriate level of care.
  • Determine the level of substance abuse intervention required through diagnostic substance abuse assessments.
  • Evaluate parenting capacity and make determinations about necessary interventions.
  • Conduct assessments of interpersonal violence and make recommendations for interventions as needed.
  • Write forensic reports by integrating information from assessments, case file review, and other documentation.
  • Share clinical documentation with appropriate entities and supervisors.
  • Take a leadership role in IDCFS clinical meetings.

The estimated salary for this role is $75,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
