Position Overview:

The Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant (CTPA) plays a crucial role in our Open Heart Program, providing direct patient care under the supervision of Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons. This position involves performing both surgical and non-surgical procedures in various settings, including the Operating Room and Critical Care Units. The CTPA is expected to utilize critical thinking skills and adhere to established clinical guidelines while caring for pre- and post-operative patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct endoscopic vein harvest and other surgical procedures as directed.
  • Perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans for patients in critical care.
  • Follow medical staff protocols for daily rounds, therapy prescriptions, and documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical staff, nursing, pharmacy, and allied health professionals.
  • Prioritize patient care effectively in collaboration with nursing and supervising physicians.
  • Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission standards and hospital policies.
  • Participate actively in emergency situations, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Maintain adherence to Society of Thoracic Surgeons' standards in documentation.
  • Exhibit professionalism and a personable demeanor in all communications.

Qualifications:

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in critical care medicine and surgical procedures.
  • Advanced understanding of cardiac rhythm management and hemodynamics.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cardiopulmonary pharmaceuticals and IV management.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic devices such as IABP and Impella.
  • Proficiency in endoscopic vein harvest techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of Ventricular Assist Devices.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Master's degree in a healthcare-related field.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant - Certified (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner - Certified (APRN-C).
  • Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
