As a Behavioral Support Specialist, your primary role will involve guiding the implementation of our positive behavior support initiatives across various educational settings. You will focus on proactive strategies to enhance student behavior and will be prepared to address crisis situations effectively, utilizing de-escalation techniques and behavioral interventions as necessary.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Designing and executing individualized and group interventions to support academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success.
- Encouraging appropriate student behavior while redirecting negative actions, serving as a model for staff.
- Maintaining accurate records related to student behavior strategies and interventions.
- Collecting and analyzing behavioral data to monitor progress and support instructional decisions.
- Collaborating with educators to manage classroom behavior and implement behavior management systems.
- Applying principles of behavior analysis to enhance student outcomes and mitigate disruptive behaviors.
- Conducting observations and assessments to inform behavior intervention plans.
- Assisting teachers in developing and executing engaging learning activities.
- Providing crisis intervention using the least restrictive methods and ensuring safety during escalated situations.
- Completing necessary documentation and reports while maintaining confidentiality of student information.
- Participating in safety committees and reporting potential hazards.
- Engaging in professional development and training to stay current with behavioral strategies.
- Supervising students during various school activities and transitions.
- Traveling to multiple locations as needed to support educational initiatives.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent with successful completion of a basic skills assessment.
- Associate's degree or higher in a relevant field is preferred.
- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification is a plus.
- Valid state driver's license is required.
- Ability to maintain certification in crisis management techniques.
- Experience working with individuals with significant learning, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
- Prior experience in educational settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is advantageous.
- Strong decision-making skills and the ability to remain calm in emergencies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
