Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Coder to join our team at the State of Massachusetts. As a Medical Coder, you will be responsible for providing clinical coding expertise to ensure accurate and consistent coding practices across our healthcare systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze clinical documentation to extract relevant data and apply accurate ICD-10 CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes for billing, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of ICD-10 CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding guidelines, as well as relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to resolve coding discrepancies and ensure accurate coding practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest coding updates, guidelines, and regulations to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and detailed records of coding activities, including coding decisions and rationale.
Requirements
  • Three to five years of experience in medical coding, with a strong understanding of ICD-10 CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding systems.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, as well as coding software and systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in medical coding, such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC.
  • Experience with coding software and systems, including ICD-10 CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding systems.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and laws, including HIPAA and OIG guidelines.
