This individual will serve as a key member of our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in Folsom or Walnut Creek, CA. As a Control Systems Specialist, you'll work under the direction of a Senior Control Systems Specialist to design complex industrial and building control systems. You'll be responsible for coordinating with multidiscipline design teams and participating in the development of control system construction documents for projects in various market sectors.

We're looking for a self-motivated individual with attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality, technically sound control system designs. As a Control Systems Specialist, you'll be responsible for:

  • Performing complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Coordinating workload through design development and construction document phases to complete documents on schedule
  • Conducting systems integration of SCADA systems, including programming of PLCs/PCs and HMI customizing for various control software programs
  • Reviewing electrical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines
  • Writing and editing instrumentation and controls systems specifications, and selecting equipment and monitoring/control devices

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop control systems for industrial and building applications
  • Coordinate with multidiscipline design teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Develop and maintain technical specifications and documentation
  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliverables
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments to ensure HDR remains a leader in control systems engineering

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technology
  • Minimum of 4 years of applicable experience in control systems engineering
  • Hands-on experience designing control systems, including SCADA systems and industrial automation
  • Knowledge of network, PLC, and DDC hardware and software
  • Knowledge of HMI software and capabilities
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and their applications
  • Knowledge of sequence of operations for industrial processes and building systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • California PE license
  • Experience in building automation, specifically Data Center or Healthcare experience
  • Industrial process control experience
  • OT Network design experience for industrial control and building management systems
  • Knowledge of multiple communication platforms and protocols
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cybersecurity considerations for control systems
