We are seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector II to join our team at the City of Racine. As a key member of our Building Division, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with city and state building codes, zoning regulations, and related ordinances.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with building codes and zoning regulations.
- Examine plans and specifications for construction projects to determine compliance with building codes and ordinances.
- Issue construction permits and conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and zoning regulations.
- Enforce city and state building codes, zoning regulations, and related ordinances through inspections, notifications, and compliance actions.
- Collaborate with the Zoning Administrator and Planning Division to ensure compliance with zoning regulations and conditional use permits.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on inspections, compliance actions, and other related activities.
Requirements
- A high school graduate or equivalent.
- Associate's degree in architectural or engineering technology preferred.
- At least three years of relevant construction trade experience, including carpentry, masonry, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license and reliable transportation.
- State of Wisconsin Certification for Uniform Dwelling Code Construction Inspector, Uniform Dwelling Code HVAC Inspector, and Commercial Building Inspector.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of construction management and sequencing of construction projects.
- Knowledge of ordinances, laws, and regulations related to building construction, maintenance, and zoning.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques used in building construction.
- Ability to recognize faulty construction or hazardous conditions created by deterioration.
- Ability to read and interpret building construction plans and specifications.
- Ability to explain and enforce regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.
Working Conditions
This position requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, crouching, stopping, climbing, balancing, feeling, talking, hearing, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, handling, and grasping.
