The Community Health Delivery System is actively seeking a full-time Clinical Care Assistant to join the UHealth Kendall team. The Clinical Care Assistant (CCA) will undertake various multi-skilled responsibilities to support medical providers. This role involves assisting patients with their healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally sensitive manner, adhering to evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service.
The CCA will provide direct patient care while complying with regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies under the supervision of a licensed physician. The supervising physician may delegate oversight of the CCA to a Nurse or designated individual in charge of the unit or clinic.
The CCA is expected to uphold ethical and legal standards of professional practice, respond appropriately to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. This role requires providing care that aligns with the philosophy, mission, vision, and values of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, the CCA will monitor the quality of care delivered and foster a compassionate and healing environment.
Caring Science
The Clinical Care Assistant (CCA) is dedicated to providing holistic care with compassion. As a team member, the CCA will employ creative strategies to meet patients' individual needs while respecting their spiritual beliefs and practices.
Encouraging open communication, the CCA will create a safe and comfortable environment conducive to physical and spiritual healing. Establishing trust is essential, and the CCA will maintain a supportive atmosphere for patients and their families, managing discomforts and providing emotional support.
Organization and Work Role Functions
The CCA will prioritize and integrate multiple requests and work expectations, performing tasks safely and professionally in a timely manner. Clear and timely communication with patients, families, and team members is essential, and seeking assistance when necessary is encouraged.
Contributing to team cohesion, the CCA will participate in unit or clinic programs and meetings, fostering positive morale and utilizing effective conflict resolution skills. The CCA will also learn and utilize available technology resources for communication, documentation, and accessing relevant clinical information.
Commitment to ongoing education and professional development is vital, ensuring competencies reflect current clinical practices. The CCA will ensure compliance with all State and Federal regulatory guidelines, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Meeting the diverse communication needs of patients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) is also a key responsibility.
Professional Practice
The CCA will perform duties within their clinical scope of practice, adhering to State, Federal, and University of Miami standards, guidelines, and regulations. Incorporating protocols and standards of care into daily practice is essential.
Constructive feedback will be accepted and provided with kindness, promoting growth while maintaining self-esteem.
Core Duties and Qualifications
- Adhere to ethical standards, therapeutic communication, and patient privacy.
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Assist providers during physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam rooms with necessary supplies and instruments.
- Understand the importance of medical and surgical asepsis, preparing patients for physician care with appropriate instructions.
- Perform routine laboratory tests.
- Conduct vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document findings in patient records.
- Observe and report changes in patients' signs or symptoms.
- Administer medications safely as directed by the physician and assist in patient mobility.
- Transport patients to various locations within the healthcare facility.
- Clean and/or sterilize medical instruments while following sterile technique principles.
- Schedule patients for tests and complete necessary laboratory forms.
- Provide patients with care instructions and information from providers.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, manage supplies, and assist with clerical duties.
- Comply with University and unit-level policies and procedures, safeguarding University assets.
Important Note: Clinical Care Assistants in hospital-based units will not perform any type of medication administration.
Core Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant educational program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
- Possession of approved MA certifications is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) for healthcare providers.
- HIV & AIDS Certification: Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continuing Education Certification.
- No prior experience required.
- Strong communication skills with patients, families, and clinical teams.
- Ability to adapt and demonstrate flexibility in changing environments.
- Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Commitment to professional ethics and patient confidentiality.
