Position Overview

Role Summary:

In this pivotal role, the Lead Surgical Technologist will provide essential support to the Surgical Services leadership by ensuring the readiness and maintenance of surgical instruments and anticipating the procedural requirements for various surgical interventions. This position will also involve guiding the orientation and ongoing training of all technical personnel within the perioperative environment. The lead technologist will play a key role in facilitating and leading educational initiatives both within the department and across the organization.

Work Schedule:

Daytime hours with flexible start times, Monday through Friday. The role includes a call duty of one day per week and every fourth weekend, with holiday coverage included in the call schedule.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • A minimum of five years of diverse operating room scrubbing experience, with a strong focus on orthopedic procedures, ideally in an outpatient surgical setting.
  • Proficient in the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Thorough understanding of current ANSI/AAMI standards, either through certification in Centralized Reprocessing within six months of hire or holding a Surgical Technologist certification (CST).

Desirable:

  • Completion of a Surgical Technologist program or equivalent operating room training, along with at least two years of varied operating room scrubbing experience, particularly in orthopedic and outpatient surgery.
  • National board certification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Surgical Services leadership in acquiring necessary equipment for daily operations.
  • Maintain sterilization documentation as required for quality assurance indicators.
  • Coordinate with leadership on the orientation process for technical staff.
  • Engage in the continuous assessment of technical staff, providing feedback to leadership for performance evaluations.
