Position Overview

Role Summary:

The Lead Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in supporting the Surgical Services leadership by ensuring the preparation, maintenance, and anticipation of instruments and procedural requirements for various surgical operations. This position involves mentoring and educating technical staff within the perioperative environment, contributing to their ongoing professional development.

Work Schedule:

This position typically operates on a day shift with flexible start times from Monday to Friday. There is a call obligation of one day per week and every fourth weekend, with holiday coverage included in the call schedule.

Essential Qualifications:

Mandatory:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • A minimum of five years of diverse operating room scrubbing experience, particularly in orthopedics, ideally within an ambulatory surgery context.
  • Proficient command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Thorough understanding of current ANSI/AAMI standards, either through certification in Centralized Reprocessing within six months of hire or possession of a Surgical Technologist certification (CST).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a Surgical Technologist program or equivalent operating room training, along with at least two years of varied operating room scrubbing experience, preferably with orthopedic and ambulatory surgery exposure.
  • National board certification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Surgical Services leadership in acquiring necessary equipment for daily operations.
  • Maintain sterilization documentation as required for quality assurance indicators.
  • Coordinate with leadership regarding the orientation of technical personnel.
  • Engage in the continuous evaluation of technical staff, providing feedback to appropriate leadership for performance assessments.
