Subrogation Specialist Job Description

USAA is seeking a skilled Subrogation Specialist to join our team in the recovery of payments made to our members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts claims investigations for moderate to high complexity cases in arbitration by analyzing the facts surrounding a loss to reach a recovery conclusion.
  • Applies advanced knowledge of Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance industry products, services, and processes to include P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, common law, contract law, state statutes, evidence, and damages.
  • Generates contentions that accurately illustrate the facts of loss to effectuate maximum indemnity recovery or defense based on detailed analysis of claim and applicable program rules.
  • Recognizes and documents subrogation, Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and salvage opportunities, and refers accordingly.
  • Reimburses policyholder's deductible after recovery is made.
  • Serves as an arbitrator who reviews contentions and evidence submitted by multiple carriers and renders decisions that appropriately cite program rules, statutory language, and other considerations.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
  • At least 2 years of claims adjusting experience.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and designated number of attempts.
  • Ability to pass required exams to serve as a panelist in arbitrations for Automobile, Medical Pay, or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claims within 90 days.
  • Advanced knowledge of common law, contract, and negligence laws.
  • Ability to expertly resolve issues and negotiate fair settlements.
  • Strong written communication skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Arbitration or Subrogation experience as an arbitration or subrogation specialist.
  • 5+ years of Auto Liability experience.
  • Currently have an active P&C Adjuster's License.
  • Currently certified to hear Arbitration cases.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Insurance industry designations such as AINS, CPCU, AIC, SCLA (or actively pursuing).
