Job Overview

Position Summary

The role involves collaborating with various teams and undertaking independent projects to execute innovative product designs and enhancements for existing equipment, aiming to elevate quality, reduce costs, enhance usability, and maximize overall customer satisfaction.

The mold designer is responsible for overseeing the entire system as well as the intricate engineering aspects of a design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engages with team members to address engineering challenges related to current tooling.
  • Designs machinery, components, assemblies, and parts for production equipment.
  • Utilizes the company's CAD system to create and modify detailed drawings and assemblies essential for manufacturing.
  • Suggests designs for new tools and engineering modifications on existing tools; advises on the procurement of necessary equipment and materials.
  • Contributes to the development and revision of instructional and training resources for customer utilization.
  • Collaborates with a team of engineers and designers to formulate conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for critical components.
  • Initiates the design of preliminary and production prints in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Analyzes specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data while consulting with the Project Manager, Engineering Manager, and/or Plant Superintendent to resolve design issues related to material properties, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing processes, and cost considerations.
  • Creates final prints that align with customer requirements.
  • Maintains engineering protocols, including daily job logs, to ensure that modifications and accurate prints are documented and sanctioned at appropriate levels.
  • Proposes alterations to design specifications to enhance the integrity of the mold design.
  • Designs with a focus on manufacturability.
  • Collaborates with component suppliers to optimize outcomes.
  • Provides technical product assistance to manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams.
  • Works alongside designers to produce the necessary drawings for prototyping and production.
  • Generates drawings utilizing CAD and solid modeling software.
  • Assists plant personnel with design specifications, sampling, and any engineering challenges related to existing tooling.
  • Maintains close and frequent communication with customers regarding design needs and with suppliers for material procurement.

Qualifications

  • 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in an engineering role
  • Proficient in 3D CAD and solid modeling
  • Able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Capable of analyzing and synthesizing complex technological and scientific concepts; possesses strong cognitive abilities and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrates strong collaboration and project management capabilities
  • Exhibits a high level of verbal and written communication skills
