Under the guidance of the Director of the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program, the Aviation Maintenance Educator will be responsible for the creation and upkeep of educational content, as well as delivering instruction to learners during theoretical, practical, and workshop training sessions within Liberty University's FAA sanctioned 14 CFR Part 147 curriculum, aimed at equipping students for careers in Aviation Maintenance and related sectors. Additional duties encompass, but are not limited to, evaluating, monitoring, and documenting FAA mandated attendance, make-up sessions, and necessary paperwork.
KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver comprehensive instruction in all facets of the 14 CFR Part 147 mandated Airframe and Power Plant Certification curriculum, including classroom presentations. Guide and support students in the execution of hands-on lab projects through demonstration and oversight. Assess and record student performance in the subject areas taught. Provide pertinent information and feedback to the director regarding student progress in projects, including grading and documentation. Prepare lessons for the 14 CFR Part 147 Airframe and Powerplant certification course, along with related training materials and equipment for demonstration or student use. Research and procure materials for training aids, equipment, and lab projects associated with lessons. Advise the director on the acquisition of equipment, materials, and supplies necessary for training. Teach or assist in teaching classes or projects in General, Airframe, and Powerplant subject areas as authorized (as per FAA approved LU AMTS OFFICIALS LIST, maintained in the director's office). Supervise and oversee assigned lab technicians in the subject area. Assist in the training of new staff/faculty in the operation and use of training aids and equipment. Perform additional duties as assigned by the director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- FAA mechanic certification with both Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
- Experience in the aviation maintenance sector or equivalent in commercial, mission, or military environments.
- Bachelor's degree.
- 2-3 years of experience in aviation maintenance.
Industry Competencies
- Proficient understanding of 14 CFR Part 147 as it pertains to required practical projects of an FAA approved AMTS.
- Expertise in aircraft technology, maintenance, and operations.
- Ability to comprehend and adhere to procedures outlined in standard aircraft maintenance documentation and manuals.
- Skilled in performing arithmetic calculations relevant to aircraft maintenance.
- Capable of making accurate judgments and decisions regarding safety based on visual inspections and performance evaluations of aircraft equipment.
- Adept at diagnosing issues with aircraft systems and following troubleshooting protocols to identify the root cause of malfunctions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey clear and articulate information.
- Ability to understand, speak, and write in English to communicate messages professionally.
- Strong public communication skills to represent Liberty University to various business and community stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational abilities.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly within the Microsoft Office suite.
- Innate ability to reason, analyze information and events, and apply sound judgment to resolve both routine and complex issues.
- Occasional travel to local and campus locations may be required.
- Frequent periods of sitting for extended durations to perform desk work or typing.
- Regularly required to hear and speak to communicate effectively.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and climb stairs to navigate the facility.
- Ability to handle materials, reach overhead, kneel, or stoop as necessary for business operations.
- Regularly lift items weighing 20 pounds or less.
- Capable of crawling under, over, and around aircraft engines and cockpits.
- Must be proficient in using various hand and power tools.
- Ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while exercising sound judgment consistently.

Work Environment
The typical working environment for this position includes a climate-controlled office setting and a heated (but not air-conditioned) hangar/shop area. The role may involve outdoor aircraft engine runs. Work areas are well-lit, with occasional moderate to high noise levels, where hearing protection may be necessary at times.
