Key ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Teaching and Learning is focused on creating a supportive, diverse, and inclusive atmosphere for educators and students alike. The University Supervisor will be tasked with guiding, mentoring, and overseeing student teachers during their practical training in educational settings within the community.
Core Duties
The University Based Teacher Educator is responsible for providing comprehensive evaluations of student teachers' performance in line with established internship guidelines.
Additionally, the University Based Teacher Educator will regularly support student teachers, conduct site visits, observe and assess their teaching practices, and offer constructive feedback. They will collaborate with clinical faculty and cooperating educators, acting as a vital link between the university and local schools.
Participation in the Clinical Faculty training program is required during the initial year of employment.
The University Based Teacher Educator may also have responsibilities that include designing coursework in CANVAS, delivering educational content, and supporting students in achieving their academic goals.
They may further develop assessments aimed at measuring student learning outcomes and create experiential learning opportunities within the curriculum.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Virginia Collegiate Professional Certificate and Virginia Teaching Endorsement in areas such as Art Education, Music Education, Special Education, Elementary Education, High School Science, Math, English, History, or Middle School Education.
- A minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, particularly in collaborating with students and faculty.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including spreadsheets and online forms.
- Experience working with diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
- Familiarity with Zoom or similar virtual communication platforms.
- Self-motivated with the capability to work independently.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse learning environment as a faculty member.
- Doctorate in relevant field and prior experience in higher education teaching.
- Experience with CANVAS and proficiency in using Zoom or other virtual platforms.
