Certified Medication Technician Job Overview

As a Certified Medication Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our patients. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare, administer, and chart medication and treatments within the scope of your practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and administers medication and treatments as prescribed by licensed healthcare professionals
  • Charts medication and treatment administration in patient records
  • Performs medical treatments under the supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Takes temperatures, pulses, and respiration and records on patient's chart
  • Participates in treatment team meetings to discuss patient care and treatment plans
  • Provides first aid for minor injuries and reports any unusual incidents to a licensed nurse
  • Accepts and accounts for drugs and related paraphernalia
  • Attends in-service training programs to stay up-to-date on the latest medical procedures and protocols
  • Reports skin breakdown and other patient concerns to a licensed nurse
  • Assists residents with bowel and bladder functions, including taking them to restrooms and providing bedpans or portable commodes
  • Collects, labels, and records sputum, urine, or stool specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Changes and transports soiled and contaminated linens
  • Assists residents with dressing and undressing, and situates bedfast residents in comfortable positions
  • Changes dressings and bandages as required
  • Aids residents in preparation for activities and programs within and outside of the center
  • Assists residents by lifting them manually or by mechanical lifts as needed
  • Records residents' food and fluid intake, bowel movements, and urine output
Requirements:
  • CMT certification through a KY State-approved program
  • Ability to pass facility requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
