School Nurse Position

The School Nurse Position is responsible for providing healthcare services to students and staff in the Dolton-Riverdale School District 148. The successful candidate will assist the school district in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absence due to illness. The School Nurse will create a building/district climate of health and wellness, maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students, and provide care for students and/or staff members who sustain injury or emergency illness.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts and/or supervises school health screening
- Supervises identification and referral of students in need of medical and dental care
- Consults with parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school health matters
- Observes students to detect health needs
- Visits student homes when necessary
- Participates with Administration and School Staff in developing and implementing the total school health program
- Assists in the development and maintenance of school health policy
- Prepares and submits health data and reports, including health histories, as required
- Supervises exclusion and re-admission of students with infectious and contagious diseases
- Provides in-service and advises teachers on health matters, as needed
- Conducts health instruction in the building and other health topics, as requested
- Administers any medical treatment and/or medication given to students while attending school
- Complies with federal, state, and district policies and procedures pertaining to health issues
- Ensures adequate supplies are purchased and available
- Assumes other responsibilities as assigned
